OCR GCSE Physical Education

GCSE Physical Education provides students with the knowledge and understanding of how to live a healthy and active lifestyle, enabling them to make informed choices about their own physical development.

Coursework element focused on developing a progressive programme of training to improve and sporting performance and attainment.

Students are required to work individually, within groups both in theory lessons and practically.

Physical Factors Affecting Performance (Year 1)

  • The structure and function of the skeletal system
  • The structure and function of the muscular system
  • Movement analysis
  • The cardio vascular and respiratory systems
  • The effects of exercise on body systems
  • Components of fitness
  • Applying the principles of training
  • Preventing injury in physical activity

Socio-Cultural Issues & Sports Psychology (Year2)

  • Engagement patterns of different social groups in Sport 
  • Commercialisation of Physical Education and Sport
  • Ethnic and socio-cultural issues in Physical Education and Sport
  • Sports Psychology
  • Health fitness and wellbeing

Exam 60% for both years work

Practical Activity Assessment – 30%

  • Performance in three activities. One team one individual and another from either.

Evaluating and Analysing Performance – Coursework 10%

  • Coursework element focused on developing a progressive programme of training to improve any sporting performance and attainment.
