ESFA Heartbreak (mon, 18 nov 19)

Unfortunately our Year 9 boys have been knocked out of the ESFA cup.
A lot can be taken from the fixture which ended 3 - 1 to the inevitable winners of the cup. Their facilities were second to non so it was a real treat for the lads to play there.

We conceded an obvious penalty relatively early on and the score remained 1 - 0 until half time. The boys had played a great first half but more was needed. I changed the formation and move a few players in to a new position. We went from  5-4-1 formation to a 4-5-1 formation with OB dropping in to midfield with immediate effect. One each. AB!!!!!!
From there we were on the up. Had a lot of the ball and kept our structure brilliantly. We. were. Dominating.

However, they won a cheap penalty. Despite their multi million pound facilities, they did not have VAR.

1 - 1 went to 3 -1 in the space of 5 minutes.

TB picked up a knock after commiting 110% into a tackle. TZ had the best performance in a school football I have ever seen from a goalkeeper. He made some Banks like saves and was awarded our MOTM.

Their heads should be held up high. An absolute credit to the school.

Under 16 Football Succes (THURS, 17 OCT 19)

Another comprehensive 3-1 victory tonight v Westwood College.  Even with 4 year 11 players missing (on work experience) the boys put in another excellent performance. The majority of our team starting were Year 10s tonight, playing a year group up and playing some great football.

The 3-1 scoreline doesn't reflect our dominance. BG continued his hot streak by bagging another goal. MK completely ran the midfield tonight with LB which allowed the majestic JP to weave his magic and bag another brace for the Moorside team.

We finish this HT in great form and will no doubt pick up where we left off after the break. Well done lads.

The year 7 boys got off to an excellent start in their league campaign this evening beating Endon 2-1. It was a tough battle throughout for the lads but they fought for every ball and after going behind against the run of play they came back well to win 2-1 with a stunning winner from captain fantastic TH, his second goal of the game.  Great performances throughout the team with special mentions to LMc for pulling off some great saves, goalkeeper turned centre half CJ was a rock at the back and Sam, Dallen, McKenzie and Jack were instrumental in the win. Kyle was unfortunate not to score on a number of occasions, hitting the crossbar and post.

Fantastic weather for our Primary Year One Sports Festival.  A great opportunity for the students to be involved in competitive sport and our Y7 Young Leaders gaining some valuable leadership experience.

(SAT, 08 JUNE 19)

Students took part in the county championships at Northwood Stadium, on Saturday. The weather was absolutely horrific but all turned out.  I am unsure at the stage where the students where placed but I do know AL, in Year 10 won her 800m race and qualified for the regional championships next week.
Her result was announced on the tannoy whilst I was trying to get a high jump pole to balance in the wind and rain.

As always massive well done to our students for qualifying at this level.

(TUES, 21 MAY 19)

We took our Year 9 and U16 boys to Stone Dominoes last night to play the finals of the Moorlands Cup against Thomas Alleynes Uttoxeter.  Both teams won their games and are now Moorlands Schools District Champions.

The year 9’s battled back from behind twice to equalise taking the game into extra time. JamesP put in another captains performance scoring a hat-trick and the winning the game into extra time with a brilliant solo goal. 3-2 winners. The U16’s won 2 - 0.

The parents were really complementary of the PE Department and school staff giving up their time to take students to fixtures and the sports tour we have organised over the years.

As always it been great to see our students progress in the local, county regional and  National cups over the years. From a sporting point of view MHS are considered to be a force to be reckoned with. Personally it was a great way to bring the football season and football for me at MHS to an end. Here’s hoping for a strong finish to our summer sports season.

The girls at St George’s Park - they have won the county cup final 2-1!!

Miss Goodfellow (PE Department)

After battling through the snow this afternoon and taking the longer (safer) route home, I can tell you the result of the Y8/9 girls county futsal final.
Out of 8 schools, all representing their individual area of the county, we came in second place, missing out on first place by 1 point!!
The girls unfortunately lost the first game until they found their feet and got back on track with their winning ways, however the first game loss proved to be the difference.
