Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural Development

As a school which prides itself on its inclusivity, we are passionate about enabling the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all of our pupils. We work to bring the wider community into the school through projects such as the ‘Silver Surfers’ and links with the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, as well as taking our pupils out into the community through our citizenship course, Sacred Buildings visits and countless field trips. SMSC is vital to encourage tolerance, build co-operation and respect, both within school and the wider community.

SMSC plays a vital role in the development of young people, and shows them what it means to be human.

Life in Modern Britain

Moorside High School actively promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.  This is done through the effective spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils, including through our extra-curricular activity and work within our local community.

British Values run alongside all SMSC, and the two go together. Good SMSC education also promotes good British Values education. These values are deemed by the Government to be:

  • democracy
  • the rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
