At Moorside, our aim in design and technology is to develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.   We encourage our students to build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users.  To achieve this, they need to critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.

In the field of food and nutrition, we offer our students the opportunity to understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.

Our students follow a carousel of subjects where they discover a breadth of knowledge, spending ten weeks in the following areas: - Product Design, Textiles and Food and Nutrition. Music joins our carousel making up the remaining portion of the year.

DT Reward Celebrations

Key Stage 3 Reward Celebrations we like to celebrate the progress and achievement of students in the individual topic areas of Textiles, Food and Nutrition and Product Design.  Awards and certificates have been designed and manufactured by the team and are awarded to students as they complete the carousel of subjects every ten weeks.

We are proud to have been competing in Greenpower Formula 24 since 2009.  The car is based upon a kit car built by our students which has undergone a series of design changes to improve performance and endurance over the years.  Our engineering team include race engineers, strategists and drivers who take full responsibility for the car on race day.
