Visits and Events

On Thursday 17th October, 17 Year 11 students had the rare opportunity to visit The Guardian Headquarters in London. They caught the train at 7:15am with Miss Day, ready for an action packed adventure into the world of journalism. They were required to write a G2 style article, under the instruction and guidance of a Guardian journalist; what a rare opportunity. At first the students found it difficult to remain impartial, but soon got into the swing of passionately writing about their topics. The students were required to research their stories as a ‘real’ journalist would – by following leads and ‘wires’ on the special software provided by the newspaper outlets.

Topics covered ranged from Climate Rebellion to Facebook’s new currency ‘Libra’ and from school funding cuts to California’s ban on fur. The Guardian staff said that they were very impressed with the mature outlook the students had on the world, as well as the insightful comments that they made. One student said she found the trip very useful; having never considered a career in journalism, it had opened her eyes to the many different areas involved and she was now seriously considering it as a a future career.

The articles written can be found below, if you wish to read them. Who knows? Perhaps we have the future Jon Snow and Fiona Bruce in our cohort!

We’ve all arrived back safely from our Ski Trip to Andorra. A big thank you to our staff for giving up their half term to give our students an experience of a lifetime.  It’s quite a job getting 56 children up and down a mountain with skis, poles and boots but we nailed it!
Below are pictures of our fantastic staff and students ski teams.   I’ve also received lots of kind words on our twitter page from parents (see below).
Mr Tatton (Head of PE Department)

Hello Mr Tatton,
We would just like to say a huge thank you to you and the other teachers for giving Isabella the opportunity to go on the school ski trip. She has been telling us all about it since she got home and it sounds like all the children had a fantastic time. Life is all about making memories and I'm sure Bella and her friends will remember this trip for a long time. Thanks again.
